Research from Direct Line has revealed that millions of homeowners are planning to let at least one room in their property this year to help boost their finances over the coming months.
The figures reveal that up to 3.2 million homeowners are now considering letting a room in their home. The average income per room is £54 per night.
They also reported that many homeowners are not taking the right precautions in regards to expanded home insurance cover in case of damage to their belongings.
Head of Select Premier Insurance Louise Lumley commented: "It is vital that homeowners take the time to protect their properties, as bills to repair or replace items as a result of damage can be expensive and may cost more than the amount earned from the rental."
